Poison frontman Bret Michaels says he is recovering after surgery to remove a kidney stone, having performed several tour dates despite severe pain. The update matters because he was hospitalised after the stone failed to pass and he has said he will resume shows only once medically cleared.

Michaels, 63, said he endured the condition for seven days and played concerts in Charleston, West Virginia; Grantville, Pennsylvania; and Spokane, Washington before the pain became unmanageable. He said the operation went smoothly and thanked medical staff; his previous health problems include a life-threatening brain haemorrhage and warning stroke in 2010.
