Barnsley Council confirm candidates for Penistone East by-election
Barnsley Council has confirmed eight candidates for the Penistone East ward by-election, which will choose one new councillor on 20 August 2026. The contest matters because it will determine local representation for the ward on Barnsley Council.
The candidates represent Labour, the Conservatives, Reform UK, the Green Party, the Liberal Democrats and Restore Britain, alongside two independents. They are Eunice Asante, Steven John Burkinshaw, Ehren Holt, Peter Millar, John Roberts, Carlo Turner, Andy Waters and David Wood; nominations were confirmed by the returning officer on 24 July.
