Bethesda yet again reassures fans that The Elder Scrolls 6’s roadmap is unaffected by recent Xbox layoffs
Bethesda has again insisted that development of The Elder Scrolls 6 remains on track, despite ongoing Xbox layoffs affecting its parent company. The reassurance came after staff at the studio reportedly warned the job cuts would have a "substantial and cascading effect" on the game, raising questions about whether management's public messaging matches the internal reality. The issue matters because The Elder Scrolls 6, announced eight years ago, remains without a release date and is one of the most anticipated titles in the industry.
The comments emerged after YouTuber MrMattyPlays put questions to Bethesda, who told him "the roadmap [for TES6] is unaffected" by the 3,200 Xbox job losses, half of which have already occurred; the main Bethesda Game Studios team reportedly lost 50 staff, including "key, high-performing people". By contrast, sister studio ZeniMax Online has said it is revising its published roadmap for The Elder Scrolls Online following major staff losses. Bethesda also addressed Oblivion Remastered, confirming its remaster team is currently focused on a Nintendo Switch 2 launch, with some resulting optimisations hoped to reach PC and other consoles, and explained its recent multi-game announcement blog (covering Fallout 5, Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters, and an Obsidian-developed Fallout title) as a deliberate shift towards more consolidated fan communication.
