Snap has launched a feature called Now Playing on Snap Map, allowing Snapchat users to share the music they're listening to with friends in real time, with Spotify as the first supported streaming service. The move deepens the integration between social platforms and music streaming, following similar sharing and discovery features rolled out by rivals such as TikTok and Spotify itself, as companies compete to make listening a more social, interactive experience.

Announced on Monday 27 July 2026, the feature lets users who link their Spotify account control who can see their listening activity, discover new music through friends, and save tracks directly from Snap Map, Spotlight and Sound Pages. Snap Map is used by more than 450 million people monthly, giving the feature significant reach; it builds on Snapchat's existing Sounds feature from October 2020 and arrives amid a broader trend, with Spotify having added in-app messaging, friend listening activity and group "Jam" sessions over the past year, while TikTok's own save-to-streaming tool has been used to save over 6 billion tracks in the year to April 2026. Now Playing is live in all markets where Spotify and Snapchat both operate, with Canada to follow.
