The outage follows a similar PlayStation Network failure less than a week earlier, which struck amid backlash over Sony's plan to end physical discs for new PlayStation games from 2028, prompting gamers to plan a boycott. Microsoft has made no formal announcement on Xbox disc production, but reports suggest its next-generation console will ship without a disc drive, pointing to a similar all-digital direction; its support site also warns that disc-based games may currently be affected.
