A woman in Barnsley who lost her father to prostate cancer in 2025 has set up a walking group to help bereaved women support one another through grief. Amy Bassinder created Walking Through Grief after finding walking outdoors an "outlet" for her own loss, and wanted to give others a space for "honest conversations" about people they had lost, saying grief is often not talked about openly once a funeral has taken place.

Several women who have joined the group described how it has helped them, including Lesley Logan, who lost her husband, and sisters Leonie and Hollie Ibbotson, who lost their mother suddenly in March 2024 shortly after Hollie's own breast cancer diagnosis. Bassinder schedules walks on different days, times and locations to make the group accessible, and says the outdoors has helped her through her "darkest days", just as it did for her father during chemotherapy.
