DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara is living with a non-cancerous brain tumour: “We can beat this f*cking thing!”
DevilDriver and Coal Chamber frontman Dez Fafara has revealed he is living with a non-cancerous brain tumour, disclosing the diagnosis on the Garza Podcast hosted by Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza. The 60-year-old musician said doctors found the tumour nearly two years ago, and that surgeons cannot yet safely remove it, meaning he must continue living and touring with the condition monitored closely in the meantime.
Fafara explained he is checked every six months, and that the tumour needs to grow further before an operation becomes safe, since removing it now risks him losing his speech and other faculties. He noted that, to his physicians' surprise, the growth has actually been shrinking on its own, and expressed defiant optimism about overcoming the illness.
