Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has been fined and given penalty points after being caught speeding twice in three weeks while driving luxury cars in Herefordshire. The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to two speeding offences, with police withdrawing separate charges of ignoring correspondence and failing to identify the driver, after he was tracked down when letters sent to two of his properties went unanswered.

Hammond was clocked driving his Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo at 68mph in a 50mph zone on the A40 in Pencraig on 2 December, then his Bentley Continental GT at 82mph in a 70mph zone on the A50 Rudhall Overbridge on 22 December. Magistrate Ann Minton ordered him to pay £1,771 in total, made up of two fines (£333 and £666), £240 in costs and £532 in victim surcharges, plus seven penalty points on his licence. West Mercia Police had struggled to serve tickets after letters to his Herefordshire castle and a nearby farm estate were returned "addressee gone away", before he was found at his home near Abergavenny, where more than 30 vehicles were registered.
