Welsh gymnast Ruby Evans has won her country's first gold medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, triumphing in the women's floor final. The 19-year-old's victory came just days after a disappointing sixth-place finish in the all-round individual competition left her in tears, and followed Wales' fourth-place finish in the team event, making the result all the more significant for Team Wales.

England's Abigail Martin took silver, with her team-mate Shantae-Eve Amankwaah claiming bronze in a clean sweep of the podium for home nations. Evans said she had felt almost angry after her earlier mistakes and channelled that into her floor routine, which also marked the first time the Welsh national anthem was played at these Games. Her win takes Wales' medal tally in Glasgow to nine, alongside two silvers and six bronzes, including twin sisters Abigail and Emily Roper's bronze medals, while boxer Connor Williams has also secured a guaranteed podium finish after reaching the semi-finals.
