The 2026 Booker Prize longlist has been announced, featuring 13 authors including previous winners Douglas Stuart and Marlon James, alongside American novelist Elizabeth Strout. Organisers say the selection "rewards risk", with judging panel chair Mary Beard describing the chosen novels as dynamite that offer fresh perspectives rather than comfortable reflection. The prize, regarded as the world's most prestigious award for a single work of fiction, continues to draw strong interest from the film and television industry, as winning novels are frequently adapted for screen.

Stuart features with "John of John" and James with "The Disappearers"; both have existing screen ties, with Stuart adapting his winner "Shuggie Bain" for the BBC and A24, and James having created HBO/Channel 4's Get Millie Black. Strout is longlisted for "The Things We Never Say", following the HBO adaptation of her Pulitzer-winning "Olive Kitteridge". The list spans authors from seven nationalities, mostly British, and includes three debut novels, with Booker Prize Foundation chief executive Gaby Wood praising the range of tones from funny to moving among the picks.
