Faye Rogers, a Scottish Paralympic swimmer who won S10 200m individual medley gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, will now race in a non-disabled event, the 200m butterfly, on Wednesday at Tollcross. The 23-year-old had been a promising able-bodied swimmer heading for Team GB Olympic trials before a car crash on the day she was due to move to Aberdeen left her with a severe arm injury and a warning she would never swim competitively again.

Rogers returned to training within 12 weeks and went on to win Paralympic gold in Paris in 2024, remarkably swimming faster than before her accident despite being unable to straighten her right arm. After testing herself over 200m butterfly last year and finding she was close to her pre-accident best, she petitioned selectors and earned a place in the Commonwealth field once no other qualifying athletes posted faster times. She hopes reaching the final will inspire other people with impairments to defy expectations.
