Valve has clarified that Steam Machine console buyers on regional waitlists are not being allowed to jump ahead of those who already hold a purchase reservation. The clarification follows confusion after Valve mistakenly sent "option-to-order" emails directly to waitlisted customers, which made existing reservation-holders fear they were being overtaken in the queue despite demand having outstripped supply for the device.

Valve said it had "unintentionally skipped a step" and confirmed that waitlisted buyers will only be contacted once a region's reservation queue is exhausted, with a confirmation email preceding any purchase offer. Reservation-holders can expect a purchase email by the end of the year, and anyone who receives one must complete their purchase within 72 hours or lose their place to the next person in line. Alongside the update, Valve announced that FSR 4.1 upscaling support is now available on Proton Experimental, and it has released CAD files for those wanting to build their own Steam Machine accessories.
