BTS have confirmed they will not submit their music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, in a co-ordinated statement posted to Instagram by all seven members. The band said they hoped music could "be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language" — widely read as a swipe at the Grammys' new best Asian pop music performance category, introduced a month earlier, which requires "meaningful use" of an Asian language and would have excluded their largely English-language material.

The group had been tipped for major nominations, including album of the year for their record Arirang and song of the year for its US number one single Swim, but more than 80% of Arirang's lyrics are in English. BTS, who have never won a Grammy despite five nominations since 2020, thanked their fanbase, the "Army", in their statement, and now join a list of acts who have boycotted the ceremony for various reasons, including The Weeknd, Morgan Wallen, Frank Ocean and Will Smith. The Recording Academy had not responded to the withdrawal at the time of reporting.
