McColgan might have ‘one more’ Games in her

BBC Sport · 10 hours ago

Scotland's Eilish McColgan has said she could compete at one more Commonwealth Games, in 2030, despite having to miss the current Glasgow edition after fracturing her foot during the London Marathon in April. The 35-year-old, who won 10,000m gold in Birmingham four years ago, watched Monday's final from the stands rather than defending her title, but suggested she might return for the marathon should it be added to the programme for the next Games.

McColgan has been in Glasgow this week to support the event, which came together after Australia's Victoria pulled out roughly 18 months ago. She praised organisers for delivering the Games on a tight timeframe and without lavish new infrastructure, saying the scaled-back approach could serve as a model for future host cities and help preserve the event's future. She also reflected on how competing for Scotland, with its smaller selection pool, gave her the confidence and opportunity she might not have found on the international stage.
