Harrington named as Ryder Cup vice-captain

BBC Sport · 8 hours ago

Padraig Harrington has been named a vice-captain for Team Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup, which will be held at Adare Manor in the Republic of Ireland. Captain Luke Donald, who is seeking a third consecutive win over the USA, said the 54-year-old Dubliner's extensive Ryder Cup experience and connection with Irish fans would bring valuable energy to the team ahead of the event.

Harrington joins brothers Edoardo and Francesco Molinari in Donald's backroom staff. A three-time major winner, he played in six Ryder Cups for Europe, served as vice-captain three times, and captained the side at the unsuccessful 2021 contest at Whistling Straits. It will be the first Ryder Cup in Ireland since 2006, when Harrington helped Europe win 18½-9½ at the K Club; Donald, meanwhile, is bidding to become only the fourth captain to lead three straight Ryder Cups.
