A Famicom archivist known as "Orochi" has discovered a working collection of Nintendo's rare 1986 Famicombox arcade units installed throughout a Japanese love hotel, with the coin-operated systems still fully operational nearly four decades after release. The Famicombox was a commercial 8-bit console designed to hold up to 16 game cartridges for hotel guests, letting them pay by coin or time to play, and its rarity has made this discovery notable among retro gaming enthusiasts after the archivist's find went viral online.

Orochi said they went undercover to investigate the hotel and found a Famicombox in every room bar one, and after testing a unit found that almost all the installed games worked correctly. The only exception was shooting titles requiring Nintendo's Zapper light-gun accessory, which is incompatible with modern LCD televisions. The units use NES-style controllers and cartridges rather than Japan-only Famicom equivalents, and Orochi has kept the hotel's identity secret in order to protect the consoles.
