A 21-year-old woman who killed two people in a car crash while filming herself speeding on Snapchat has had her prison sentence increased following a legal challenge. The case was referred to the Court of Appeal under the unduly lenient sentence scheme, which allows sentences deemed too soft to be reviewed and toughened, reflecting the severity of the offence and its fatal consequences.

The victims died as a result of the crash, which occurred as the driver recorded footage of herself driving at excessive speed to share on the social media platform. Judges at the Court of Appeal agreed that the original sentence handed down did not adequately reflect the gravity of her actions, and increased the term she must serve.
