A24's UK division has secured the television rights to "Fruit Fly", the debut adult novel by "HappyHead" author Josh Silver, following a competitive bidding process. Silver will serve as executive producer on the series, marking his transition from acclaimed YA fiction into adult literary satire, with the adaptation continuing A24 UK's push into queer-themed literary properties.

The novel follows Mallory, a literary star battling career-threatening writer's block, who becomes fixated on Leo, a young addict living rough and trading sex for survival, seeing him as the key to reviving her fortunes; publishers describe it as a satire probing privilege, queer identity and the exploitation of pain within the publishing industry. The book is already out in the UK and lands in the US and Canada on 4 August, published by Oneworld and Crooked Lane Books. Silver previously wrote the dystopian "HappyHead"/"Dead Happy" duology (optioned by Taron Egerton's Range Media Partners in 2023) and YA novel "TraumaLand". A24 UK, led by Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett, has recently optioned several other novels including Alexis Hall's "Boyfriend Material" and Patrick Radden Keefe's "London Falling", alongside upcoming projects such as "Husbands" and Michaela Coel's "First Day on Earth".
