Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi has said Square Enix has not yet decided whether the third and final instalment, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, will get a true physical disc release. Speaking to GamesRadar+ at the Final Fantasy 14 Berlin Fan Fest, he explained that internal discussions on the game's product line-up are still ongoing, leaving the format uncertain despite the previous two entries both shipping with physical discs. The uncertainty matters to fans and collectors, particularly as the games industry continues shifting towards digital-only releases.

Hamaguchi said he personally wants a physical edition and is working to arrange one, citing the value of physical media for things like autograph signings at fan events. He noted the industry trend towards code-in-a-box releases rather than true discs, though he believes some physical format will persist, whether as boot discs, key cards similar to Nintendo's approach, or code-only boxes. Remake and Rebirth both received genuine disc releases, including a three-disc PS5 bundle, but Hamaguchi stopped short of confirming Revelation would follow suit, saying fans will need to await further announcements. Separately, Sony has said it plans to end new physical disc production in 2028.
