A new theatrical release, "Above & Below," blends shark-attack horror with a cartel crime thriller, and Collider has shared an exclusive sneak peek featuring Antonio Banderas as the villain. The film arrives amid a wave of Shark Week-adjacent releases this July, but distinguishes itself by combining underwater peril with a violent criminal plot, giving the well-worn shark-movie genre a fresh twist and giving Banderas a menacing lead role.

The story follows five friends on a shark-diving trip in Mexico who stumble upon a hidden stash of cartel cocaine, prompting armed criminals to take them captive. Two of the group, Tatiana and Kaley, are forced to retrieve the drugs from the seafloor while trapped in a shark cage surrounded by great whites and running low on air. The exclusive clip shows Banderas's character, cartel boss Burns, ordering the brutal, darkly comic killing of two captives, underlining the film's blend of tension and dark humour as the surviving friends attempt a desperate escape.
