Ewan McGregor and Alan Cumming will star together on stage for the first time in a Scottish adaptation of "Supernova," Harry Macqueen's acclaimed 2020 romantic drama about a couple navigating a dementia diagnosis. The production will run at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre in Perthshire, where Cumming is artistic director, marking a homecoming of sorts for both actors, who grew up in the area. It brings together two of Scotland's most recognisable screen performers—McGregor known for "Trainspotting" and Cumming for "The Traitors"—in a stage version of a film that was shortlisted for two BAFTAs, including best film.

Macqueen, adapting his own screenplay for his playwriting debut, will see the piece directed by John Tiffany, reuniting with regular collaborator and movement director Steven Hoggett, the pair behind "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" and "Once." Jamie Harrison, known for "Stranger Things: The First Shadow," will design the production. Both McGregor and Cumming expressed enthusiasm about the project in statements, with Cumming calling it "a love story, a treatise on life and death itself and a visual feast." The theatre run is scheduled for the summer of 2027.
