Northern Ireland's Ellie McCartney won bronze in the women's 200m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing her first senior international medal. The 21-year-old from Enniskillen finished behind home favourite Abgharad Evans and South Africa's Kaylene Corbett, capping a strong Games so far for Northern Ireland's swimming team.

McCartney, who had only posted the sixth-fastest semi-final time, clocked 2:24.73 to edge out Australia's Ella Ramsay by 0.16 seconds. It marked the third swimming medal for Northern Ireland at these Games, following Bethany Firth's 200m freestyle S14 bronze and Barry McClements' S9 100m backstroke silver, with further medals confirmed in bowls and boxing. Elsewhere in the pool, Jack McMillan finished sixth in the men's 200m freestyle, won by Australia's Kai Taylor ahead of England's James Guy and Wales's Matt Richards, while Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen and Northern Ireland's relay teams were set for later action.
