Afroman has filed a lawsuit against a former Ohio sheriff's deputy, months after successfully defending himself in a defamation case brought by police officers depicted in his viral music videos. Those videos mocked officers from the Adams County Sheriff's Office who had raided the rapper's home over suspected drugs and kidnapping, only to find nothing, and Afroman won that case in March. Now he has turned the tables, accusing one of the officers involved of defaming him in return, invading his privacy, and causing significant financial harm.

The new lawsuit, filed on 27 July, names Sgt Brian Newland, a former detective with the Adams County Sheriff's Office, and alleges he defamed Afroman by pursuing a $1.5 million claim against him, costing the musician tens of thousands of pounds in legal fees. Afroman also claims officers disconnected his home surveillance system and took roughly $400 in cash during the original raid, which police maintain was simply a miscount. He is seeking compensation covering attorney's fees, lost wages, emotional distress and lost business opportunities, and announced the suit with an expletive-laden Instagram post targeting Newland by name.
