Speaking to GamesRadar, he explained that internal discussions on the exact product lineup are still ongoing, and that platform-specific rules, such as storage limitations on cartridges, complicate the decision. The comments matter given the games industry's broader drift towards digital-only releases, with fans keen to know whether a beloved franchise entry will still come on disc.

Hamaguchi said each platform holder has its own regulations that must be factored into format decisions, but he hopes to land on something close to what fans want, with further announcements to come. He noted he personally values physical items, even something as minimal as a code or key card in a box, citing the culture of fans bringing merchandise to events for autographs. The remarks come as PlayStation plans to shift to digital-only from January 2028, and with Grand Theft Auto 6 already skipping a disc release when it launches in November, raising questions about whether more major titles will follow suit.
