The number of registered sex offenders in Sheffield has expanded notably over three years, according to data secured via freedom of information request. The May 2026 figures show 775 offenders registered in the city, compared with 672 in May 2023—a growth of 103 individuals representing a rise of just over 15 percent.

The increase reflects a broader pattern across South Yorkshire, where all four districts recorded growth during the same period. Across the county, the total rose by 11.64 percent to 2,157 offenders, with Rotherham recording an 11 percent increase, Doncaster 9.92 percent, and Barnsley 3.35 percent. South Yorkshire Police responded by characterising the figures as a "snapshot" of an ongoing situation, noting that the 12 offenders currently unaccounted for represent less than one percent of the managed population and that most are classified as short-term missing persons cases involving failed appointments or individuals believed to be abroad.
