The 2026-27 Women’s Super League season will begin on Friday 4 September, when London City Lionesses host Manchester United in a match expected to feature Alexia Putellas’ debut for her new club. Her arrival, alongside seven other signings, reflects London City’s ambition to challenge the established leading teams, while United face a demanding early test after missing Champions League qualification last season.

The WSL expands to 14 teams, with Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace promoted. Champions Manchester City start against Birmingham, Chelsea face Aston Villa in their first home league match at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea, Arsenal and City meet before the end of November; the BBC will broadcast 25 league games. Fixtures will be spread more widely across Friday evenings, Saturdays and varied Sunday slots, while the campaign concludes ahead of the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
