Fake websites resembling official US election campaign stores are being used to collect donations and personal information ahead of the 2026 midterms. They can appear credible by using candidates’ names, polished product images and familiar checkout systems, making it difficult for voters to distinguish legitimate campaign fundraising from potential fraud.

Research from internet intelligence firm WhoisXML API identified 62,081 election-related domains created since September 2025, including 13,645 with campaign-style names. Many may be legitimate sites operated by campaigns, supporters, retailers or domain investors, but researchers found active shops using candidates’ names and accepting merchandise or donation-style payments; voters are advised to verify official websites, donation links and committee disclaimers before providing payment details.
