Gears of War: E-Day’s multiplayer sure is more Gears of War

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set during the Locust invasion’s “Emergence Day”, but this preview focused on its multiplayer rather than story. After seven years since Gears 5, the new Horde Siege mode appears deliberately familiar: it retains the series’ co-operative, cover-based combat while adding larger teams and more movement-driven objectives.

Horde Siege supports 12-player lobbies organised into three squads of four, with Blitz, Siege and traditional Horde match types. Players complete randomly assigned objectives and then fight to extract by helicopter; the full game is due on 6 October for PC and Xbox Series X, launching with three maps and more planned through seasonal updates. The preview used Golden Quarter, a large, ornate European-style city map, and described four upgradeable classes: Assault, Breacher, Marksman and Medic, each levelled up to 30 times.

  • E-Day’s multiplayer keeps Gears’ familiar co-operative shooting formula.
  • Horde Siege expands matches to 12 players across three squads.
  • The prequel launches on 6 October for PC and Xbox Series X.
