Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has prompted a sharp rise in active players for Ubisoft’s 2018 game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, as renewed interest in Ancient Greece draws people back to the title. The effect matters because the engagement boost could strengthen the case for Ubisoft to remake or refresh the game, particularly after the recent release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, Odyssey’s active user base nearly doubled in a week; on Xbox, daily players rose from 36,000 to 84,000, an increase of 134%. Ubisoft has supported the momentum with social-media campaigns and renewed promotion of the game’s educational Discovery Tour mode, while its inclusion in Game Pass and PlayStation Plus lets subscribers play without an extra purchase; sales have remained comparatively modest, at roughly 400,000 copies so far this year.
