Sony Pictures Classics has acquired worldwide rights to “Diamond”, Andy Garcia’s noir crime drama, following its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The deal gives the independently made film an established distributor, though no release date has been announced, and marks the culmination of a project Garcia says he developed for nearly 20 years.

Garcia wrote, directed and stars as Joe Diamond, a man with a traumatic past whose unusual observational ability helps solve crimes beyond the LAPD’s reach. The cast includes Vicky Krieps, Brendan Fraser, Rosemarie DeWitt, Bill Murray, Dustin Hoffman, Demián Bichir and LaTanya Richardson Jackson; Garcia also co-wrote the score with Arturo Sandoval. Sony’s rights exclude France, Germany, Italy and the CIS, while the film was produced by CineSon and several partner companies.
