The Star (Sheffield) · 3 hours ago

A Sheffield University student faced her attacker in court as he was sentenced to five life terms for kidnapping and repeatedly raping her. The judge praised her evidence and described her courage as remarkable, while the case highlighted the serious risks posed by a repeat violent offender.

Akhtar Naseem, 39, abducted the then 19-year-old from a city street shortly after she began university and held her captive. He had previously served 12 years for a similar attack on a 17-year-old, was released in 2000, and committed the later offence three months after being returned to prison for breaching licence conditions; he was told he could not seek parole for nine years.
