New Street Fighter trailer reveals Jason Momoa as Blanka

A new trailer for Paramount Pictures and Legendary’s forthcoming Street Fighter film offers the first substantial look at Jason Momoa as Blanka, depicting him as a feral and violent opponent forced upon Ryu by M. Bison. The footage suggests director Kitao Sakurai is embracing the source material’s exaggerated, camp sensibility, using recognisable attacks and visual references rather than presenting the characters realistically.
Ryu, played by Andrew Koji, is put into a cage fight arranged by David Dastmalchian’s M. Bison and confronts Blanka, who electrocutes a prisoner and uses his signature Blanka Ball move. The trailer also echoes Street Fighter 2’s X-ray effect and includes a brief cameo by fighting-game creator Maximilian Dood; the film is scheduled for cinema release on 16 October.
