UEFA has unanimously said its 55 member associations will boycott all FIFA competitions while plans to sell a stake in FIFA’s commercial operations remain under consideration. The threat covers the 2027 Women’s World Cup and would severely weaken any tournament without European teams, which are among football’s most successful and commercially valuable sides.

FIFA proposes moving its commercial business into FIFA Forward Enterprise and selling 20% to Thrive Capital, led by Joshua Kushner. President Gianni Infantino called the plan a way to increase funding and develop football globally, but UEFA criticised its secrecy, lack of consultation and a reported strategy involving higher ticket prices, more tournaments and additional debt; the AFC and Concacaf have also criticised the proposal.
