Broken Lizard’s *Super Troopers 3* is being presented as the comedy troupe’s most ambitious film in its 37-year history, nearly a decade after the second instalment. The group says a cinema release remains important for R-rated comedy, despite streaming’s dominance, and is using live promotional events to encourage audiences back into theatres.

The sequel follows the troopers as Farva becomes engaged to Thorny’s sister Sarita, played by Hannah Simone, while the group investigates a local drug ring and prepares for an elaborate wedding. A live Q&A with Collider is scheduled to be broadcast to opening-night audiences in about 1,400 North American cinemas on 6 August; the cast said their experience in sketch comedy and stand-up makes them comfortable with live performance.
