A ‘new version’ of the best Amnesia game is supposedly coming by the end of this year

Destructoid · 4 hours ago

Frictional Games appears to be planning a “new version” of Amnesia: The Dark Descent for release by the end of 2026, according to a reference in the studio’s 2025 annual report. The original 2010 horror game remains highly influential, so any remake, remaster or technical update could renew interest in it while raising questions about how much its distinctive atmosphere should be changed.

The report does not explain what the new version will involve, leaving it unclear whether it will update graphics, improve compatibility with modern hardware or substantially remake the game. The Dark Descent is now 15 years old and has retained a following partly through player-made custom campaigns and maps; the article notes concerns that a re-release could alter key lighting and physics systems or replace the original on digital storefronts.

  • Frictional reportedly plans a new Dark Descent version for 2026.
  • Its scope remains unknown: remake, remaster or technical update.
  • Fans may welcome improvements but fear changes to the original.
