Megan Keith won bronze for Scotland in the women’s 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, watched by her 100-year-old grandfather, Dr Murray Kirkwood. The result mattered especially after a disappointing 10,000m earlier in the week, and Keith said reduced expectations helped her race more freely.

The 24-year-old Inverness athlete moved through the field with four laps remaining and held on as Australia’s Rose Davies took gold and Jessica Hull silver. Fellow Scots Eloise Walker and Laura Muir finished 15th and 16th, while Keith celebrated by finding her grandfather for a hug after the race.
