Sony has raised its full-year operating-income forecast by 8%, expecting stronger profitability in its PlayStation business, even as Sony Pictures’ quarterly revenue fell 13%. The contrast highlights the group’s reliance on games and music to offset weaker television-production deliveries and theatrical takings at its film and television division.

Sony Pictures recorded $1.978 billion in revenue for the quarter to 30 June, while operating income rose 21% to $156 million; television revenue fell 32% to $571 million and theatrical revenue dropped from $132 million to $30 million. Group revenue rose 8% to ¥2.837 trillion ($17.8 billion) and net income increased 32%, while music revenue grew 21% to ¥562 billion; PlayStation sales were flat, but operating income rose 37% to ¥202 billion, helped by US tariff refunds.

  • Sony lifts earnings outlook despite weaker Pictures revenue.
  • Music growth and PlayStation profits supported overall results.
  • Television deliveries and theatrical income declined sharply.
