Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken more than $50 million in US and Canadian Thursday preview screenings, surpassing the preview total for 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The result makes it the biggest preview performance for a Sony film and the strongest since the Covid-19 pandemic, signalling the potential for an exceptionally large opening weekend.
The film, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, reportedly had $80 million in advance ticket sales and cost a net $225 million to produce. Its previews began at noon and include a Wednesday screening for Prime Video members; opening-weekend estimates range from $260 million to $300 million, despite the film not playing on IMAX screens. Audience and critics’ scores are also strong, at 98% and 90% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
