PS5 Crawls Past 95 Million Units, Sales Down 36% Year-on-Year

Push Square · 3 hours ago

Sony reports that PlayStation 5 lifetime sales reached 95.3 million units by 30 June 2026, although quarterly hardware sales fell sharply year-on-year. The slowdown is notable as the console enters its sixth year, while Sony has raised PS5 prices rather than cutting them to sustain demand, an unusual approach for a mature console generation.

Sony sold 1.6 million PS5s during the quarter, down about 36% from a year earlier but slightly above the previous quarter’s 1.5 million. Hardware revenue fell 9.8%, software sales edged up to 66.1 million units, and digital purchases made up 82% of software units; monthly active users rose to 125 million. Game and network-services revenue was broadly flat, while profit increased 37%, largely because of US tariff refunds.

  • PS5 sales passed 95 million, but quarterly unit sales fell 36%.
  • Higher PS5 prices helped limit the hardware-revenue decline.
  • Software sales and active users increased slightly.
