Singaporean authorities are investigating Massive Attack after reports that members displayed a Palestinian flag and called for a free Palestine during the British band’s concert in Singapore on Wednesday. The case highlights Singapore’s strict limits on political expression and public demonstrations, particularly around the Israel-Gaza war, which officials say are intended to protect social and racial harmony.

Police and the media regulator said reports had been made and investigations were under way, including into a possible breach of concert licence conditions. Singapore generally prohibits displaying foreign national emblems without permission; convictions can carry a fine of up to S$500 (£290), up to six months’ imprisonment, or both. Massive Attack, known for its political activism, had only one Singapore date on its world tour and was scheduled to perform in Seoul on Saturday.
