PlayStation Expects Record Breaking Fiscal Year for PS5, Despite Economic Challenges

Push Square · 4 hours ago

Sony has raised its operating-income forecast for PlayStation’s financial year ending 31 March 2027 to ¥660 billion, a level that would make it the most profitable year ever recorded by a gaming company. The prediction is notable because it comes amid wider concerns over console demand, rising PS5 prices and economic pressure on the games industry.

The revised forecast is ¥60 billion higher than Sony’s previous estimate and would surpass Nintendo’s ¥640 billion record from the year ending March 2021. Sony attributes the increase to tariff refunds, favourable exchange rates and lower costs, while major releases such as Grand Theft Auto 6, Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey may also contribute. It warned that changes to its first-party release schedule could limit results, suggesting some planned titles may have been delayed or moved.

  • Sony forecasts record PlayStation operating income of ¥660 billion.
  • The target would exceed Nintendo’s previous industry record.
  • Lower costs and major game releases support the outlook.
