Engadget found that inexpensive stickers and clip-on covers can obscure the recording LED on Meta smart glasses without triggering the company’s new anti-tampering safeguards. This matters because the LED is intended to alert nearby people that they are being recorded, and the workaround could enable covert filming despite Meta’s efforts to reassure users and bystanders.

The tested sticker kit cost $16.99 for 12 covers, while another cover for Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses cost $15 for 10; both left enough light for the glasses’ sensor while making the LED difficult or impossible to notice. Meta’s mandatory update disables cameras if the LED is physically broken, but these accessories leave it intact, making detection harder; bypassing the feature violates Meta’s terms and may lead to account penalties.
