Director Zach Cregger says his forthcoming Resident Evil film will contain highly disturbing and unusual imagery, reflecting his intention to make a more intense survival-horror adaptation. The remarks matter because the reboot is seeking to capture the unsettling experience of the games while telling a new story rather than directly recreating their established characters and plots.

The film stars Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier travelling through Raccoon City during its outbreak, in a story set alongside the events of Resident Evil 2. Cregger has said he had creative control and final cut, and the film is scheduled for release on 18 September 2026.
