Marketa Vondrousova has received a four-year ban after refusing an out-of-competition doping test at her Prague home in December 2025. An independent tribunal found that her stress, anxiety and stated safety concerns did not provide compelling justification for refusing the test, a decision that carries the standard four-year sanction and has significant consequences for the former Wimbledon champion.

Vondrousova said she was frightened by an 8pm visit from a doping control officer while alone, citing concerns including the 2016 attack on fellow Czech player Petra Kvitova. However, the tribunal agreed with the International Tennis Integrity Agency that her later decision to take her dog for a walk and meet the officer outside was inconsistent with believing there was an immediate threat; it also noted she had not raised safety concerns with her agent or boyfriend. The 27-year-old won Wimbledon in 2023 as the first unseeded women’s singles champion.
