Mel Gibson’s 2004 film *The Passion of the Christ* will return to cinemas for a limited run from 10 to 17 September 2026, distributed by Lionsgate and Fathom Entertainment. The re-release renews attention on one of Gibson’s most commercially successful but controversial films, which prompted debate over its graphic violence and allegations that it portrayed Jewish authorities as responsible for Jesus’s crucifixion.

The film has been remastered in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound and a revised colour grade overseen by original cinematographer Caleb Deschanel. Made for a reported $25 million, it grossed about $622 million worldwide and remains the highest-grossing biblical and Christian-themed film; tickets for the September screenings are now on sale.
