Consequence’s review finds Ariana Grande’s eighth album, petal, to be an emotionally candid response to public scrutiny, past trauma and relationship pressures. It says Grande channels these experiences into a more experimental and at times abrasive sound, while questioning the personal cost of turning pain into art.

The album follows 2024’s eternal sunshine and is released through Babydoll/Republic on 31 July 2026. The review highlights the apocalyptic opening track “kiss me”, the shifting waltz-like title track and UK garage-influenced “oh well”, praising the sonic experimentation but criticising some hesitant choices and clumsy lyrics.
