Would you get tattooed just to interview at a 7-days-a-week AI startup?
AI startup LemonLime has apologised after offering instant job interviews to people who got tattoos at a San Francisco party, a stunt its chief executive later called reckless. The episode has drawn criticism because it appeared to link a permanent body modification with employment prospects, highlighting concerns about pressure and power imbalances in unconventional recruitment practices.
Seven attendees reportedly received tattoos, including the company’s logo, after LemonLime’s 25 July event following Y Combinator’s Startup School. CEO Jordan Zietz said the company did not require its logo and that interviews were ultimately available to everyone, while offering to cover tattoo-removal costs for anyone who later regrets participating. LemonLime has also promoted a seven-days-a-week office culture, with Zietz dismissing applicants unwilling to work evenings or weekends.
