Army Staff Sgt Angel Rampersad was laid to rest in Queens after being killed during an Iranian missile and drone attack on a US air base in Jordan. The funeral marked a community farewell to a 28-year-old soldier remembered by relatives and friends as someone who had long wanted to serve, while underscoring the personal toll of the conflict with Iran.
Rampersad, from Ozone Park, New York, died on 17 July at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, where she was serving with an air-defence unit based in Germany. She was initially reported missing after the attack before the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System confirmed her death; two other US soldiers were also killed in the same assault.
