Eight months after its debut on Crave and HBO, Heated Rivalry is continuing to rise in streaming popularity, including on the Apple TV Store. The success is notable because the series’ first season ended in December, yet it is still attracting new viewers and repeat audiences ahead of a second series, which is due to start production next month.

Based on Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novels, the show follows the secret relationship between rival NHL players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Series two is expected to adapt The Long Game, exploring their committed but concealed relationship, homophobia in professional ice hockey and their mental health; it will also introduce characters from Role Model, including player Troy Barrett and social media manager Harris Drover.

  • Heated Rivalry remains popular months after its first-series finale.
  • Production on series two is expected to begin next month.
  • The new series will deepen Shane and Ilya’s secret relationship.
