Hololive Dreams: How the Development Team Used RPG Mechanics to Create a Giant Rhythm Game

IGN · 6 hours ago

Hololive Dreams combines rhythm gameplay with role-playing and theme-park-building systems to appeal beyond established rhythm-game fans. Its developers say the broader structure gives music challenges a clearer purpose, allowing players to progress through quests and expand a virtual island park while engaging with hololive’s VTuber roster.

Released on 23 July, the game features 54 playable hololive talents and more than 150 songs, including original tracks, covers and ensemble performances. It also includes four non-rhythm minigames, such as rope skipping, ingredient-matching puzzles, a 16-player obstacle course, and a card game combining poker and Mahjongg; the large song selection was intended to help it compete in Japan’s crowded mobile rhythm-game market.
